Tutorial: Creating Custom Uniforms

Post by William »

Hi Everyone,

This is less of a tutorial and more of a quick QA on how to create a custom uniform in EnVision.

You can create custom uniforms via the Uniform Editor. You can find it in the toolbar, near the right. You can select between the pre-existing uniforms to modify and save them as your own. You can also choose several other textures for different uniform parts that have been created for you and change the overlay color for some simple modifications.

If you need even more customization, you can create your own textures for those areas. This takes a bit more work but is sometimes the only way to get the level of customization that you are looking for. Download the EnVision1.zip file that I have attached here, it contains the png images that are used to create the EnVision1 Uniform that ships with EnVision. You can use the various png files as templates for your custom uniform. You will have to edit the image files in an image editor and then load them using the 'load Texture' button in the uniform editor.

In general you can probably use the existing pants/shoes/gloves white textures and change the color overlay value to save you some time. You can of course modify all the files if you want/need that much customization.

Feel free to add comments and questions below!

I'm new to this, so please forgive me if this has already been asked and answered. When I downloaded the zip file, it has TGA files, not png files. What program (or programs) do you use to edit these files? I'd like to create uniforms for the band, but have no idea how to do that with these files. Thanks!

Most picture editors will be able to open and edit TGA files. Paint.NET is a simple free program http://download.cnet.com/Paint-NET/3000 ... 38146.html, but if you are familiar with them then Photoshop or Gimp are good options too.

Hi mariareese,

EnVision does support Windows 7 so you should not be having a problem there. This question doesn't seem to relate to this thread so please create a new topic or send an email to contact@box5software.com with the specific errors that you are seeing and a description of when you are getting the problem.

Have a great day!

Wow mariareese, that's quite a step to get EnVision working. I hope it wasn't too much trouble. Glad your up and running again though!

I've done a considerable amount of work creating custom uniforms for my groups for Envision. If anyone needs helps, feel free to reach out. I'll make a tutorial at some point in time.

Hi Justin,

I'm sure we would all love it if you put a few tips together for future readers! Thanks!

I'd also love to see some of the designs that you've put together. Maybe some screen shots?
