Best way to create a halt set?

Post by narcofis »

I currently used a subset with the number of counts for the halt but it creates extra pages on print that are unnecessary. Also you don't want the halt set to be it's own separate set has it is a waste of paper.
Can you let me know the best way in your opinion to create a halt without having it print?

It seems like the subset works well but if you could designate the subset as a halt and have the count at the top right of the current set match for example 8 counts hold 12 instead of displaying 20 cts would be useful. Fruit for thoughts!.

Thank you

Hi narcofis,

This is an issue that we have considered in the past and it is something that we are working on a solution to. Unfortunately at this time there is no easy way around it.

The short answer is post editing. Right now I think you are on track with the subset halts. In addition to that I would use an external program such as CutePDF http://www.cutepdf.com to print out to a PDF document. From there you can use Adobe Reader to pick and choose the pages that you want to print.

Thanks for the input! I hope this has helped!

Thanks for the information.

An easy solution to this would be to add an option under the "set properties" tab. You currently are showing the set type :"Set", "Subset"; by adding a "Hidden Subset" or "Halt Subset" or "Not printed subset" or add a "hidden" checkbox option or something similar to remove the extra page when printing would be an easy addition. This option would be great to removed it from the dot sheet also.

Fruit for thoughts!
Thanks

That is a very good idea. And it seems pretty simple too.

What would you do about information on the printed page? ie Would you add information to the previous set/subset to let people know that there is a halt there? Or would you have the user input it themselves?

Technically, the information on the "halt" subset would be ignored.
Previously, I would usually write the counts on the previous set saying something in the lines of Move 12 Hold 8 in the notes. That's on the manual side but would not be necessary if the "compass" top right that indicates the counts would display the halt set. As an Example:

Set 2 Move 14 cts
Set 3 Move 12 cts
Subset 3A is Hold 12 cts

The compass currently shows this:

You could do something like this:

Even Subset could be indicated that way:

That's one improvement in my opinion that would eliminate the "manual input" of the counts in halt/subset. As for multiple subset in a row you can display the first two-three subsets within. Following my example, having 3 subsets; Set 3 then Set 3A and then Set 3B, I would go along the same line that I did above but for more then 4 then you would modify Set 3B to show "..." instead of cts indicating multiples sets or cts to complete to set 4.

I think you are on to something narcofis.

It's simple and elegant. It will work well within our design philosophy. I will try to get this added soon.

Hi narcofis,

You will be happy to know that we took your suggestions to heart. Starting in version 1.2.17 you can now mark subsets as a halt. This option is available through the Set Properties tool. It works basically exactly as you have been describing it. See the official release log here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7&start=10#p1537
